September is Basic Education & Literacy Month
Each September, Rotary International shines a spotlight on one of its core causes: Basic Education and Literacy. Around the world, Rotary clubs dedicate themselves to ensuring that every child and adult has the opportunity to learn, read, and reach their full potential. For our Rotary Club of Empowering Our Girls, this mission is especially close to our hearts.
Our Club’s Commitment to Literacy
We believe that education is empowerment—and that literacy is the foundation of opportunity. Through our projects, we’ve worked to:
- Support literacy programs that put books in the hands of children who might not otherwise have access such as with our sponsored Little Free Libraries and grants for book bundl
- Promote reading initiatives that encourage confidence and creativity in young learners, particularly girls.
- Partner with schools and community groups to strengthen educational resources and opportunities.
Rotary International’s Global Impact
Rotary International has a long history of advancing education. With over 25 million children worldwide unable to read or write, Rotary partners with communities to build schools, train teachers, develop curriculums, and expand access to resources. From providing scholarships and teacher training to building classrooms and libraries, Rotary is changing lives through learning.
How You Can Support Literacy and Education
As a Rotarian or as a guest inspired by Rotary’s mission, you can make a difference:
- Volunteer your time to read with children, mentor students, or support local schools.
- Donate books and resources to community literacy programs.
- Advocate for equitable access to education for girls and underserved communities.
- Join our club or partner with us on upcoming literacy-focused projects.
Every action, big or small, helps us move closer to a world where every person has the chance to learn and thrive.
This September, let’s recommit to the power of literacy. Together, we can inspire hope, unlock potential, and empower the next generation of leaders.
